AURAS vs Europ Assistance: which Schengen visa insurance should you buy?
Is AURAS or Europ Assistance cheaper for a Schengen visa? AURAS, by a wide margin: a flat $1.50 a day, against Europ Assistance's €3 a day with a duration discount that never closes the gap. On our model: 18-39: AURAS is cheaper at every trip length; 60-69: AURAS is cheaper at every trip length; 70+: AURAS is cheaper at every trip length. Europ Assistance is EU-regulated, has no deductible and refunds the full premium on a documented refusal if the trip has not started; AURAS has a $100 deductible, a $3,000 per-event cap and only a visa-fee add-on. One surprise: Europ Assistance's Trustpilot score (1.3) is far lower than AURAS's (3.2).
Europ Assistance is one of the pricier options but is EU-regulated, while AURAS is the cheapest rate we track. Price says AURAS; regulation and refund terms say Europ Assistance; reviews say neither is comfortable.

Age limits, refusal and reviews
Visa refusal. Europ Assistance refunds the full premium if the trip has not started, no claim was filed and you have valid proof of refusal. AURAS offers an optional add-on of about $49 that reimburses the embassy fee, not the premium, and we could not find it in its wording.
Older travelers. Europ Assistance sells up to age 74 at purchase and prices 70+ at roughly double the base rate. AURAS sells beyond 74 with a surcharge from 66 (about 1.4 times at 76).
Reviews. Europ Assistance holds 1.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 219 reviews (a small sample, with complaints about slow claims and hard-to-reach support). AURAS holds 3.2 from 169, with complaints about denied and slow claims.

Who each one is for
AURAS suits a budget traveler who mainly needs the certificate, and anyone over 70 buying for a short trip, accepting a non-EU underwriter and a $3,000 per-event cap.
Europ Assistance suits applicants who want an EU-regulated insurer, no deductible and a premium refund on refusal, and who are comfortable paying roughly two to three times more for a month-long trip.
Bottom line
AURAS is much cheaper and no worse reviewed; Europ Assistance buys you EU regulation, no deductible and a premium refund. If a refusal would be costly, the refund terms matter most; if the trip is short and cheap is the goal, AURAS wins on price.
