A one-page tool built around a single question: does this certificate actually pass at the consulate?
Why this site exists
Most "compare Schengen insurance" pages online rank providers by commission, not by whether the certificate holds up at a visa appointment. We built SchengenCompare after seeing the same pattern come up again and again in visa forums: a traveler buys a cheap policy, the certificate is missing one line — usually the word "repatriation," or full Schengen-area validity — and the application gets kicked back on a technicality that has nothing to do with the actual insurance.
So instead of starting from "which insurer pays the best commission," we started from Article 15 of EU Regulation 810/2009, the actual legal text consulates use to check your paperwork, and built the comparison around that.
How we compare providers
Every provider on the comparison table is checked against four things: minimum €30,000 medical cover, validity across all 29 Schengen states, cover for the full length of the trip, and repatriation stated explicitly on the certificate. Providers that don't clear all four don't make the list, regardless of price.
Prices shown are starting rates we've observed on each insurer's own site. Your exact quote depends on your age, trip length and country of residence — the price estimator on the homepage gives a fast approximation, but the insurer's checkout page is always the final word.
Who runs it
SchengenCompare is an independent, small-scale project — not a licensed insurance broker or agent in any country. We don't sell policies directly and we don't collect payment information; every "Get a quote" button sends you to the provider's own website to complete the purchase there.

That doesn't change our rankings: we compare providers by whether the certificate actually holds up at a visa appointment, not by which one pays the best commission.
