A one-page tool built around a single question: does this certificate actually pass at the consulate?
Why this site exists
Most "compare Schengen insurance" pages online rank providers by commission, not by whether the certificate holds up at a visa appointment. We built SchengenCompare after seeing the same pattern come up again and again in visa forums: a traveler buys a cheap policy, the certificate leaves one detail unclear, for example repatriation cover or Schengen-wide validity, and the application runs into questions over something that has nothing to do with the actual insurance.
So instead of starting from "which insurer pays the best commission," we started from Article 15 of EU Regulation 810/2009, the actual legal text consulates use to check your paperwork, and built the comparison around that.
How we compare providers
Every provider on the comparison table is checked against four things: minimum €30,000 medical cover, validity across all 29 Schengen states, cover for the full length of the trip, and repatriation stated explicitly on the certificate. Providers that don't clear all four don't make the list, regardless of price.
Prices shown are starting rates we've observed on each insurer's own site. Your exact quote depends on your age, trip length and country of residence. The price estimator on the homepage gives a fast approximation, but the insurer's checkout page is always the final word. Who runs it
SchengenCompare is written and maintained by Benzi Peleg, a licensed insurance agent in Israel. That license doesn't make this site an insurance intermediary for Schengen travel insurance or for your country of residence — we don't sell policies directly, we don't collect payment information, and every outbound provider button sends you to the provider's own website to complete the purchase and finalize the coverage there. The license is why the site is built around what actually holds up at a visa desk rather than around whichever headline is easiest to sell.
Three of the six outbound provider buttons on this site (SafetyWing, AURAS and EKTA) are affiliate links: we may earn a commission if you sign up through one, at no extra cost to you. Those three are listed first on the homepage for that reason, and we say so there. The other three (AXA, Europ Assistance, Heymondo) are direct links that currently pay us nothing. Placement is commercial, but it doesn't change how we score: we rank and rate providers by whether the certificate actually holds up at a visa appointment, using the same published criteria for all six, not by which one pays the best commission.
